Traditional storage architectures have been performance-optimized over time, but the focus has been on transactional applications and workloads like databases or virtual machines. While there is definitely a need for that type of storage, like the scratch space in your HPC farm, it is equally—and perhaps increasingly—important to be able to move large amounts of data quickly between your active archive and your compute environment.

Streaming performance of SwiftStack storage scales horizontally, independent of capacity. 10 Gb and 40 Gb Ethernet networks can easily be saturated to optimally hydrate your HPC farm to best make use of your scientific data. Dirk at Fred Hutch realized a 3x performance gain even before tuning their environment.

SwiftStack can scale from one to many on-premises regions and/or public clouds. Among on-premises data centers, SwiftStack’s deterministic placement will automatically place data according to policies you define—putting researchers physically closer to the data they need. And for multi-cloud environments, SwiftStack’s 1space allows replication, placement, or migration of data between on-premises storage locations and public cloud buckets—all in a single namespace. This may be useful for DR strategies, archiving content to another cloud, ‘bursting’ from one cloud to another to leverage additional resources or specialized services, collaboration between teams, and much more.
