While there is definitely a need for that type of storage, like the scratch space in your HPC farm, it is equally—and perhaps increasingly—important to be able to move large amounts of data quickly between your active archive and your compute environment.

Streaming performance of SwiftStack storage scales horizontally, independent of capacity. 10 Gb and 40 Gb Ethernet networks can easily be saturated to optimally hydrate your HPC farm to best make use of your scientific data. Dirk at Fred Hutch realized a 3x performance gain even before tuning their environment.

SwiftStack can scale from one to many geographic regions, all in the same namespace. According to the policies you choose, SwiftStack will automatically replicate data between regions, putting researchers physically closer to the data they need utilize for faster access.

Alternatively, if Amazon S3 or Google Cloud is a better place to provide clients and collaborators access, then SwiftStack’s Cloud Sync feature can automatically replicate data there as well.
